Numbness in the first days is your body slowing the information down. It is not coldness and it does not mean you loved them less.

Sudden loss usually leaves something unsaid. Many people find relief in writing the letter anyway and reading it aloud once.
When to get help
If after several months you cannot work, eat, or be alone, that is a reason to speak to a grief counsellor. It is a common and treatable kind of stuck.
